Vol. 130 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply Board Employment.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will recommend to the Electricity Supply Board that they should give employment to all employees of local companies taken over by them, who have been rendered unemployed as the result of such taking over.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that it is their policy to absorb into their employment all suitable employees of acquired electricity undertakings. The provisions of the First Schedule to the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1927, are intended to provide compensation for those persons whom it is not possible to absorb.

Is the Minister aware that in the town of Killybegs at least one employee of the present company has been informed by the Electricity Supply Board that his services will be no longer required? Perhaps the Minister will make inquiries into the matter?

I suggest to the Deputy that he should take the matter up with the Electricity Supply Board.

I thought the Minister would have more influence with them than I would have.
