Vol. 130 No. 3

Committee on Finance. - Central Fund Bill, 1952—Committee and Final Stages.

Question proposed: "That Section 1 stand part of the Bill."

On Section 1—and as there are three minutes left—I want to know from the Minister——

The Deputy might refer to the terms of the motion regarding this Bill.

Am I to take it that no discussion is allowed on any stage of this Bill except the Second?

Question put and agreed to.
Sections 2, 3, 4 and Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

Am I allowed to ask a question?

It is the duty of the Chair to bring to a conclusion the stages of this Bill before the time lapses, and I am going to carry out the decision of the House.

One minute for a question. Can the Minister for Finance tell us why he made the speech he just did, when the Taoiseach, as Minister for External Affairs, in July, 1947, told E.C.A. he was going to bring in 1,481,000 tons of wheat in the four years ending 1951, when, in fact, the inter-Party Government brought in only 841,000 tons, thereby saving this country £20,000,000? Similarly, £19,458,000 were saved on maize in the same period.

That is the truth.

Of course, the Minister knows it is, too.

Question put and agreed to.
The Dáil adjourned at 10.30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 26th March, 1952.
