Vol. 130 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cigarettes and Whiskey: Shannon Airport.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what brands of Irish manufactured cigarettes were available for sale at Shannon Airport during the week ending March, 9th, 1952, and available on aeroplanes flying between Shannon Airport and the Continent during the same week-end.

Apart from one brand of cigarettes manufactured by the Imperial Tobacco Company, Limited, which was temporarily out of stock, all brands of Irish manufactured cigarettes were available for sale at the airport during the week in question.

I have no information about the brands of cigarettes available on aeroplanes flying between Shannon and the Continent during the week ended 9th March, 1952.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is correct that Irish whiskey is not available on aeroplanes flying between Shannon Airport and the Continent; and, if so, if he will make representations to the airlines concerned to have Irish whiskey made available.

I have no information as to whether or not Irish whiskey is available on aeroplanes flying between Shannon and the Continent. Irish whiskey is available at the airport to be taken on board as stores if desired.

I am of opinion that if any representations are to be made to the airlines on this matter, they should be made by the Irish whiskey distillers.

Is the Minister aware that it is the practice of Aer Lingus not to make Irish whiskey available on the plane unless the person orders a large one. If a person orders a small whiskey he is not given Irish whiskey.

I am not so aware. In any event the question does not relate to Aer Lingus.

I can assure the Minister that it is a fact.
