Vol. 130 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-Tax Relief.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that, due to the increase in the rate of old age pensions, persons who maintain dependent relatives in receipt of the pension are no longer entitled to income-tax relief in respect of such dependent relatives; and, if so, if he will introduce proposals for legislation to remedy this situation.

As the increase in old age pensions operates as from 5th October, 1951, the situation to which the Deputy refers does not arise, and could not arise, in relation to the current income-tax year.

I am due to introduce my Budget on next Wednesday, and I am sure the Deputy will not expect me to indicate in advance what proposals it may or may not contain.
