Vol. 130 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Water Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the proposed water schemes at (a) Lismore, County Waterford, and (b) Stradbally, County Waterford, and if, in view of the large number of unemployed in the county, he will give every assistance possible to have these schemes started at the earliest date possible.

Contract documents for the provision of a water supply for Lismore have recently been submitted to my Department, and are at present being examined by my technical advisers.

With regard to Stradbally, the acceptance of a tender for the carrying out of the main contract was sanctioned on 26th February, 1951. The acceptance of tenders for the provision of pressure filters and sterilisation equipment, and for the pumping plant for the schemes, was sanctioned on 21st March, 1951, and 5th April, 1951, respectively. The use of asbestos cement pipes is specified, and the delivery period for such pipes is at present about 18 months. I understand that the contractors expect delivery next May or June, when work on the scheme is expected to commence.
