Vol. 130 No. 7

Summer Time Order, 1952—Motion of Approval.

I move:—

That Dáil Éireann hereby approves of the Summer Time Order, 1952, made by the Minister for Justice under the Summer Time Act, 1925 (No. 8 of 1925).

The effect of the Order is to extend the period of summer time from the 5th October to 26th October, a period of three weeks. It does not alter the date on which summer time is due to commence, which is the 20th April. The purpose of the extension of three weeks is to bring the period of summer time here into accordance with that fixed in Great Britain and the Six Counties. Considerable inconvenience would be caused if a different time operated during the three weeks in question in this country and in Great Britain. Accordingly, I ask the House to approve the Order.

Is this not further evidence of the "black hand of bureaucracy" which Deputy Burke was so anxious to talk about on Sunday?

That is not a serious contribution.

The Deputy's was not, I agree.

Motion put and agreed to.
