Vol. 130 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Grants to Farmers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is prepared so to alter and reorganise the system of State grants, subsidies and special allowances to the farming community as to favour and encourage the tillage and dairy farmer as against the grazier and cattle ranchers.

Mr. Walsh

The bulk of the provisions in the Estimates for my Department are for expenditure designed to encourage directly or indirectly the tillage and dairy farmer. The guaranteed prices and markets for farm crops, the extension of credit and the special loans provided for the purchase of machinery, etc. put that farmer in a favoured position.
