Vol. 131 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offensive Trades By-Laws.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether proposals were received in his Department from the Dublin Corporation in May, 1951, regarding new by-laws dealing with offensive trades; and, if so, whether it is proposed to improve or alter the by-laws before the sanction of his Department is given to these proposals and, further, if he will state the reasons for the delay in giving the necessary sanction.

Draft by-laws in relation to offensive trades submitted by the Dublin Corporation some years ago dealt with certain trades which were not specified as offensive by the Public Health (Ireland) Act. 1878. Approval to the draft by-laws could not be given until the question of including these trades in the category of offensive trades had been settled, in accordance with the procedure laid down by the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Acts, 1878 to 1948. An order to this effect has been made by the corporation, and will be confirmed shortly, after which the new by-laws will be considered.
