Vol. 131 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the need for several telephone kiosks and letter boxes at various centres in the Ballyfermot housing scheme and, if so, if he will consider the immediate provision of kiosks at (1) the temporary church; (2) the sub-post office; (3) Decies Road, and (4) Le Fanu Road, and of letter boxes at (a) Sarsfield Road; (b) Kylemore Road; (c) Kylemore Avenue, and (d) the Inchicore end of Landen Road besides the temporary letter box in the sub-post office.

There is already one telephone kiosk at Ballyfermot and arrangements have been made to provide a second, which will be sited at Decies Road. Arrangements are also being made to provide a telephone call office in the sub-post office. The provision of further kiosks in the area is not warranted at present.

There is already a letter box in Sarsfield Road. Three new boxes were recently erected in the Ballyfermot area. These provide adequately for the existing posting requirements of the district and the erection of further boxes is not warranted at present.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he will provide a public telephone in Palmerstown and also if he will state when it is proposed to provide a money order office and some letter boxes in this area.

The erection of a telephone kiosk at Palmerstown is not warranted at the moment but if plans for projected building development in the area materialise during the year the question of providing a kiosk will be reconsidered.

Money order facilities were provided at Palmerstown Post Office in January last. When the building developments referred to are more advanced an additional letter box will be erected.
