Vol. 131 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Unemployment.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware (a) that in Listowel, County Kerry, the number of unemployed (for the size of the area) is extremely high; (b) that Listowel, which has a population of 3,000, is the only town of its size, and with its unemployed percentage, in Munster that has not got a factory of some kind; and, if so, if he will state what steps he proposes to take towards providing a factory for the town of Listowel and district or towards alleviating the unemployment in the area.

The establishment of any industry is a matter for private enterprise. I am prepared to take any action which is within my power to assist practicable proposals for the establishment of an industry in the town of Listowel.
