Vol. 131 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pier Improvements (County Kerry).

asked the Minister for Finance if he is now in a position to state (1) the improvements which are to be carried out at the Knightstown pier and its vicinity, Valentia Island; (2) the cost of the project, and (3) when work on the scheme is likely to commence.

The proposed improvements at Knightstown Harbour comprise a breakwater, a pier-breakwater and a slip. The cost of the project is estimated at £3,200. The Kerry County Council have been asked to execute the necessary documents and to pay their agreed contribution towards the cost. The works will be started when they have done so.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what progress is being made in carrying out the extension and improvement to the Renard Point pier, Cahirciveen.

As indicated to the Deputy in reply to his question on this subject in November last several matters of considerable difficulty arise in connection with this proposal. These have not yet been resolved.
