Vol. 131 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Surplus Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to the statement of a speaker at a Fine Gael meeting in Ballyconnell, County Wicklow, and reported in a provincial newspaper of 19th April, 1952, to the effect that he had rejected an offer from Great Britain for the purchase of our surplus potatoes at a remunerative price; and, if so, if he will state whether there is any foundation for this statement.

Mr. Walsh

I have seen the statement referred to. There is no truth whatsoever in it.

What about the statement Deputy Cogan made that they would get 1/8 minimum and probably 1/10 for creamery milk?

Does the Minister not think it is a criminal thing for members of an organisation such as Fine Gael to go around the country making false statements of this kind?

That is a separate question.
