Vol. 131 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) if the road which was constructed on the southeast side of the Coghlan estate, Barnagreggaun, County Mayo, was allotted or measured in on the holdings of migrants to that estate or who now owns the ground on which the road is laid, and (2) if, when it was acquired by the Land Commission, the estate included half of the land on which the boundary fences stood.

Mr. Boland

(a) The site of the road on this estate forms part of the allotments traversed by the road.

(b) According to the estate maps the boundary between the estate and an adjoining estate in Knockanakill is the townland boundary, which is described on the ordnance sheets as the centre of the fence on the boundary.

The Minister gave me some information which I did not ask for. I asked the Minister did the Coghlan estate when taken over include half of the land on which the boundary fences stood?

Mr. Boland

The answer reads: "(a) The site of the road on this estate forms part of the allotments traversed by the road."

That is clear.

Mr. Boland

The second part is: "(b) According to the estate maps the boundary between the estate and an adjoining estate in Knockanakill is the townland boundary, which is described on the ordnance sheets as the centre of the fence on the boundary." I do not know whether the Deputy follows that or not. I must admit that I do not.

It is all right. Such an answer could only come from the Department of Lands.

Mr. Boland

The Deputy can study it himself.
