Vol. 131 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waste Disposal System.

asked the Minister for Local Government if an invention of a new system for waste disposal was offered to his Department; and, if so, whether such invention was rejected; further, if he is aware that the British Ministry of Local Government and Town Planning are now adopting such invention.

My technical advisers examine on their merits the proposals of any sanitary authority for the installation of any sewerage system the cost of which is proposed to be defrayed by way of loan, and their advice on such proposals is tendered to me to assist me in considering the propriety of sanctioning such a loan. No question of the acceptance by my Department of an offer of the use of any particular system of sewage disposal could therefore arise.

I understand that the Wicklow County Council authorised the experimental use of a system of the type referred to in one area in their district and that the question of its economic operation is still under review.

I am not aware that the position is as stated in the last paragraph of the question.
