Vol. 131 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Reclamation Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the total amount expended on land reclamation and drainage under the land reclamation project during the period of three years ending 1951.

Mr. Walsh

It is assumed that the information the Deputy requires is the total amount expended during the three years ended 31st March, 1952, under the land reclamation project on (i) grants to farmers who carry out drainage and reclamation work themselves on their holdings; (ii) drainage and reclamation work carried out by the Department of Agriculture directly or by contractors working for the Department; (iii) the fertiliser credit scheme. The total amount is £1,878,525.

It is to be noted that under the terms of the land project, provision is made for repayment of part of the moneys expended under the section of the project where the Department does the work and for repayment of the whole of the amount expended under the fertiliser credit scheme.

Did the Minister mention March 1952 in error, instead of March, 1951?

Mr. Walsh

March, 1952.
