Vol. 131 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employers' Liability Insurance Licences.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has decided that every assurance company, society, association or other body licensed by him to do employers' liability insurance business and which is incorporated or constituted under the law of a country other than the Irish Republic is a foreign company and that this should also apply to a syndicate similarly licensed; further, if he will state the names or other designations of every foreign insurance company or syndicate which, on the 31st March, 1952, held a licence to do employers' liability insurance.

I do not understand the first part of the Deputy's question. There is no question of a decision by me that a particular insurance company or syndicate is "foreign". The expressions "foreign company" and "syndicate" are defined in Section 3 of the Insurance Act, 1936.

The information requested in the second part of the question is contained in a statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.
