Vol. 131 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Production Costs.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the cost of producing milk, per gallon, in each of the years 1949, 1950 and 1951 on each of the farms attached to mental hospitals in the Dublin Milk Board production area.

The accounts of the mental hospital authorities are not normally compiled in such a manner as to enable the information requested to be furnished. By reason of a special examination which was carried out in the Grangegorman district mental hospital it is, however, possible to indicate the average cost of producing milk on the farms administered by that body for the year 1949-50. The appropriate cost is 2/5.78 per gallon. Figures for later years are not available, nor is the information available in relation to the other mental hospitals concerned.

Was it the figure given in relation to Portrane approximately 12 months ago?

This is the only figure I could find.

I think it is the same hospital.

Deputy Lehane is quite right. There was a daft figure given from Portrane—3½d.

It's dafter than ever now.
