Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat, Oats and Potatoes.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (1) the total acreage of wheat sown this year; and (2) the anticipated yield.

With regard to the first part of the Deputy's question, no estimate of this year's wheat acreage is yet available, but it is hoped to have one ready early in July. As regards the second part of the question, it is not possible to give a forecast of the yield of wheat.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the total acreage of oats sown in each of the years from 1948 to 1951, inclusive.

The total area under oats in Ireland on 1st June in each of the years from 1948 to 1951 was as follows:—880,083 statute acres in 1948; 686,220 statute acres in 1949; 614,363 statute acres in 1950; and 619,940 statute acres in 1951.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the total acreage of potatoes sown in each of the years from 1947 to 1951, inclusive.

The total area under potatoes in Ireland on 1st June in each of the years from 1947 to 1951 was as follows: 383,146 statute acres in 1947; 385,430 statute acres in 1948; 349,786 statute acres in 1949; 336,712 statute acres in 1950; and 321,448 statute acres in 1951.
