Vol. 132 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Forestry Centres.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that large areas of land have been offered for sale to his Department for afforestation purposes in South Kerry; and, if so, if he will sanction the establishment of forestry centres at Milltown, Glenbeigh, the barony of Iveragh, Castlecove and Sneem at the earliest possible date.

Considerable areas of land have been offered for afforestation in South Kerry, but a high proportion is unsuitable for afforestation. A recent offer in the Milltown area may, if the land proves suitable, improve the prospects of opening a new centre in that area. The opening of a new centre in the Glenbeigh area is expected in the near future, and a recent acquisition of 300 acres in the Sneem area has extended the existing forest of Kenmare.
