Vol. 132 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stocks of New Zealand Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) how many cwt. of New Zealand butter are expected to be in stock on 4th July, 1952, and (b) what profit the Exchequer will receive from the increase of price by 10d. on that date.

Mr. Walsh

As regards (a) it is estimated that about 14,000 cwt. of New Zealand butter will be in stock on 4th July, 1952. As regards (b) the sale of this butter at the increased retail price of 3/10 per lb. would realise a profit of about £11,000 which, of course, will merely offset slightly the loss of £410,000 already incurred by the Exchequer on the sale of imported butter this year.
