Vol. 133 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Withdrawals of Spirits and Wines from Bond.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total clearance from bond of home produced spirits in April of this year; the total clearances for April, 1951; the total duty paid on clearances from bond during April this year of imported spirits, Scotch whiskey, brandy, gin and rum and the corresponding figure for 1951; and, further, if he will state the revenue collected by the Exchequer from the withdrawal from bond in April this year of (a) home produced spirits, and (b) imported spirits and the corresponding revenue figures for April, 1951, for both (a) and (b); the quantity of wine withdrawn from bond in April, 1951, and April, 1952, and the amount of money collected by the Exchequer for each quantity.

As the answer includes a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Home-produced Spirits.

It is assumed that the clearances referred to by the Deputy are the net duty-paid quantities retained for home use and that the Deputy has not in mind quantities cleared for export, methylation, etc. Particulars of the quantities retained for home use and of the corresponding duty are as follows:—

In the case of imported spirits the duty receipts include duty paid on clearances for home use on importation (i.e. ex ship, etc.) and from bonded warehouse. It is not practicable to distinguish as between the net duty receipts in respect of such clearances. The following figures represent the total net receipts:—
