asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that mental hospital employees who have been obliged to resign since April, 1951, are having their pensions based on a sum less than their annual salary at the time of retiral; and, if so, whether he will now state if he is prepared to allow calculation of pension to be made on the annual salary of an employee's last year of service rather than on the average salary over the last three years of service as at present.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Welfare (Mr. Kennedy) (for the Minister for Health)
The statutory conditions governing the superannuation of officers and servants of mental hospital authorities provide that a superannuation allowance of lump sum payable to an officer or servant shall in general be calculated on the basis of the average amount of remuneration during the last three years of service. I have no authority to authorise a departure from the statutory provisions.
