Vol. 133 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of applicants for service in the Garda Síochána received from County Galway, and in reference to such applicants if he will state (a) the number who complied with the requirements as to height; (b) the number of such applicants who were called to sit for the qualifying educational test, and (c) the circumstances which determined the rejection of those who were not allowed to sit for the qualifying educational test.

Mr. Boland

The total number of applicants from County Galway was 92. Of that number 72 appeared to comply with the requirements as to height. The number selected to sit for the qualifying educational test was 43.

I have explained fully in reply to recent questions the reasons why all applicants who appeared to comply with the minimum physical requirements were not called to sit for the educational test.
