Vol. 133 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retired Teachers' Lump Sum Payment.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Education if the promised reconsideration of the retired teachers' demands for the payment of the lump sum to those who retired before 1st January, 1950, has been finally considered and, if so, with what result.

This matter has not yet been finally considered by the Government and I am not in a position to indicate what the ultimate decision may be.

Mr. Byrne

Can the Minister say whether he will consider at a very early date the position of those unfortunate men who are hopeful that they will get a grant to enable them to meet the increase in the cost of living brought about by the present Budget?
