Vol. 133 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Market for Farmers' Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate whether a market is likely to be available for farmers' butter during the coming months.

Mr. Walsh

I would refer the Deputy to the reply I gave Deputy Dillon on the 8th July to a question regarding farmers' butter, in the course of which I said I believed that, following the increase in the price of creamery butter to 3/10 per lb., first quality farmers' butter will find a ready sale at a favourable price. The British Ministry of Food's offer of a trial consignment of factory butter, which I referred to on that occasion, has since been accepted by the Irish Dairy Butter Trade, Limited, and I am hopeful that an order for a substantial quantity will result.

At 2/3 a lb.?

Is the Minister of opinion that 2/2 or 2/3 a lb. is a favourable price for farmers' butter?

Mr. Walsh

It is as much as we can get.

Hear, hear!
