Vol. 134 No. 2

Written Answers. - Taxation on Motor Vehicles.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate what increased yield will result to the Exchequer from the proposed increase in taxation under the following heads: (a) car taxation; (b) taxis and private hire cars; (c) lorries from one ton to five tons and (d) heavy lorries.

As regards (a) and (b), I would refer the Deputy to my statement introducing the financial resolutions yesterday.

The existing revenue from goods vehicles is not classified according to weights, and any estimate of the yield from particular weight-groups is necessarily very problematical. On the figures available it is estimated that the increased yields from (c) and (d) will be £235,000 and £65,000 respectively.
