Vol. 134 No. 2

Written Answers. - Butter Production.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the amount of milk sent to creameries for butter manufacture during the months of May to August, 1952, inclusive, and the probable butter production for the present calendar year.

Mr. Walsh

As regards the first part of the question, I presume the Deputy wishes to know how much of the total quantity of milk delivered to creameries was used for the production of butter in the period specified. The answer is approximately 102,000,000 gallons.

As regards the second part of the question, on the basis that production of butter from 1st October to 31st December, 1952, is at the same level as for the corresponding period of 1951, the total production of butter for the calendar year 1952 would be about 682,000 cwt.
