Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bantry New Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state (a) what the present position is concerning the proposed new hospital at Bantry; (b) what accommodation it is proposed to provide and (c) when work is likely to commence.

The examination of the revised sketch plans submitted by the local authority for the conversion of Bantry District Hospital into a Central Hospital has been completed in my Department and observations on them will be furnished at a very early date. The proposals for the structural engineering work have yet to be furnished by the local authority to complete this stage of the planning.

The scheme proposed will provide a total of 67 beds for patients and accommodation for eight lay nurses and 11 nuns. It also provides for an outpatients' department which will serve as a county clinic.

It is hoped that the work on this project will commence in the autumn of next year.
