Vol. 134 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Offaly Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in order to relieve unemployment in the area, he will make a grant available from the Road Fund to have the road at Ballard, Tullamore, County Offaly, repaired as 14 houses in the area are without proper road facilities.

This is an accommodation road maintainable by the Offaly County Council as housing authority. I understand that the county engineer has reported that it is in fairly good condition. The carrying out of any necessary repairs would be a matter for the county council.

As the road is not a public road, it is not possible to allocate a Road Fund grant for its repair, but in any event it rests with the local authority in the first instance to select works for execution with the aid of the Road Fund grants allocated to them annually.
