Vol. 134 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Kerry Glasshouses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is now in a position to state the exact location of the glasshouses to be erected by his Department for the production of tomatoes in South Kerry.

Mr. Walsh

It is intended to establish a new unit of 100 glasshouses in the Cahirciveen area, but the exact location of each glasshouse has not yet been settled.

What Cahirciveen area does than mean? Would it be the Cahirciveen rural district or the Killorglin electoral area?

Mr. Walsh

There are a number of areas in the Cahirciveen peninsula which are being surveyed at the present time and in some place in that area these glasshouses will be established. The exact location has not yet been decided.

I asked the question because numbers of people have made application for glasshouses and they are outside the area. They feel that the scheme should be made applicable to the whole of South Kerry.

Mr. Walsh

There will be an announcement made shortly by the Parliamentary Secretary as to the area in which the glasshouses will be.

If Deputy Palmer requires further details in regard to this matter I suggest that he call on myself and Deputy Mrs. Crowley.
