Vol. 134 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Servant and Election Address.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, with reference to his statement in a reply to a question on 5th November, 1952, that the name of a civil servant had been used in an election address without his consent, whether he has been furnished with any information as to the circumstances in which this occurred; and, if so, whether he proposes to take any action in the matter.

The civil servant referred to in the Deputy's question has furnished me with a copy of correspondence between him and the candidate for election, and in particular with a copy of a letter which he has addressed to the candidate in the course of which he specifically stated that he gave no authority to anyone to append his name to the candidate's election address.

I am accepting the officer's affirmation that his name was improperly used.

Mr. Brady

Would the Minister say if he has received any information from the other civil servants who are mentioned in replies to previous questions?

This question refers to a particular civil servant, and I do not see why others should be drawn into it.
