Vol. 134 No. 11

Finance (Excise Duties) (Vehicles) Bill, 1952—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to charge and impose certain duties of excise in respect of mechanically-propelled vehicles used on public roads and in respect of driving licences under the Road Traffic Act, 1933, and to provide for matters connected with the matters aforesaid. —(Minister for Local Government).

When is it proposed to take the next stage?

Will the House be sitting next Wednesday?

We will not be running away, like the last Government, before bringing in the social services scheme.

You are melting away.

A two to one majority.

Will Deputies on both sides please remember that I have to try to conduct the business of the House?

We have no Government. This Government has forfeited the confidence of the people. This is a usurpation.

They got a notice to quit to-day.

When will the Bill be circulated and when will the Second Stage be taken—or is it intended to take the Second Stage?

It will be circulated to-day and taken next Wednesday.

Or when the new House meets.
