Vol. 135 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps the Land Commission propose taking to make a water supply available to the Griffen estate, Golden, Cashel, in view of the fact that there is no water in or near the divided lands; further, whether he is aware that a new water pipe line is now running from the Galtees to Cashel; and, if so, if the Land Commission will make use of this supply on behalf of the tenants.

As it was not possible to locate water on this estate, concrete tanks for the collection and storage of rainwater have been erected on six of the seven holdings created. The allottee of the seventh holding has access to an existing water supply. As regards the latter part of the question I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of the 30th January last in this matter.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reasons why the Land Commission have failed to provide a water supply to the tenants on the Stoney estate, Portland Lorrha, County Tipperary; further, if he is aware that when division took place in 1938 two wells were provided for the purpose but the pumps were not erected and that a number of families have to procure their supply of water by hauling it from those wells at a depth of 30 feet and if, in view of this fact, he will take steps to have these pumps erected without further delay.

Two pumps were erected on this estate in 1940 and two further pumps are being provided. The wells for the latter have been sunk but further boring is necessary in one case. When this has been done and satisfactory reports from analysts obtained, the pumps will be erected.
