Vol. 135 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Council Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a large number of county council tenants are anxious to purchase their houses and further if he has received such a request from the Dublin County Council; and, if so, if he will favourably consider sanctioning the proposal.

Of the 4,543 cottages erected by the Dublin County Council up to the 31st March last purchase schemes had been made in respect of 2,955 and application to purchase had been received in respect of 626 of these. A further purchase scheme in respect of 206 of these cottages has since been made and will come into force shortly.

I understand that about 300 tenants have applied for the purchase of cottages in respect of which purchase schemes have not yet been made. The council intend to make schemes in respect of all remaining cottages and have submitted proposals to my Department in respect of 84 cottages at Tolka and 40 cottages at Coolock. These proposals are being examined.
