Vol. 135 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the residents of Garristown and Naul are very anxious to have the rural electrification scheme commenced in their areas; and, if so, if he will state the approximate date when work will start.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Garristown area has recently been selected for development and that the erection of the network will commence early next year. The financial return from the area which includes Naul is unsatisfactory and consideration of the question of developing the area has been postponed but it will be reconsidered in the future. It is not possible at this stage to say when the development of the area is likely to take place.
