Vol. 135 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Laoighis.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the universal demand for the service in the localities, the Electricity Supply Board propose to extend rural electrification to the Ballylinan, Ballick-moyler, Arles and Wolfhill areas, County Laoighis, which could all be included in the one area scheme.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Arles area, which includes Ballick-moyler, and the Ballylinan area, which includes Wolfhill, have been considered by the board on a number of occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme but they have, so far, failed to qualify for selection. These areas will be considered for selection at intervals in competition with other areas in the board's Portlaoighise district, but I am unable to state when development is likely to take place. The board consider that it would not be desirable to combine the areas.
