Vol. 135 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what stage has been reached in the proceedings by the Land Commission to acquire portion of the lands of Mr. John Glavey, at Aghamore, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo; and portion of the lands of Mr. T.J. Rogers, also situated in Aghamore.

Objections to acquisition have been disallowed in both of these cases. In the former, a requisition for alternative lands in lieu of those the subject of proceedings is pending for decision. An appeal against the price fixed by the Land Commission for the latter estate is pending for hearing by the appeal tribunal.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that considerable dissatisfaction is felt by the tenants of Carras, Kilmaine, and the surrounding locality arising from the persistent refusal of the Land Commission to acquire the lands of Mr. Andrew Fitzpatrick, Record No. S.1608, for the purpose of relieving local congestion; and, if so, whether the Land Commission will reconsider their decision in the matter.

This matter was recently reconsidered by the Land Commission and they have decided to adhere to their decision not to take any further steps towards the resumption of the holding. I understand there is little or no congestion in the vicinity of the lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have decided to make an offer for the lands of Delaney, Wraymount, Shinrone, County Offaly, which are available for sale and if, as livestock have to be grazed on the public road, regard will be had to the congestion which exists in the area and an immediate inspection of this farm undertaken by the Land Commission.

Recent representations in this matter are under consideration but no decision has as yet been reached by the Land Commission.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, in view of the fact that this particular farm is situated in the most congested district, would he advise or request one of the officers of the Land Commission to put at least an offer or a bid on the farm so that it might be purchased for the relief of local congestion?

There will be no avoidable delay by the commissioners in coming to a decision.
