Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of applications for pensions received under the Military Service Pensions (Amendment) Act, 1949, the number of applications acknowledged, and the number investigated fully and considered to be eligible for pensions under the Act.

The number of new applications received under the Military Service Pensions (Amendment) Act, 1949, is 3,065, of which 69 are under Departmental inquiry. The balance of 2,966 have been submitted to the Referee or Board of Assessors for investigation. In addition 13,854 petitions for the re-investigation of previous claims under the Military Service Pensions Acts, 1924-1934, have been received and submitted to the Referee or Board of Assessors.

The number of new applications decided by the Referee or Board of Assessors is 174. In 74 of these cases affirmative reports were made, while negative reports were made in the remaining 100 cases.

The number of petitions decided by the Referee or Board of Assessors is 2,087. In 895 of these cases affirmative reports were made. Negative reports were made in the remaining 1,192 cases.
