Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports from Soviet Union and Satellite States.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (1) the principal goods imported to Ireland from the Soviet Union and her satellite states in the past year, (2) the value of these goods and (3) if trade with these States is carried out directly or through the medium of some other nation.

As regards (1) and (2) of the Deputy's question, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the values of the principal goods imported in the year 1952 which originated in Albania, Roumania, Bulgaria, Hungary U.S.S.R., Poland, Czechoslovakia and Eastern Germany.

As regards the third part of the Deputy's question, of the total value of imports (£706,537) which originated in the countries specified, 88.3 per cent. was consigned from the eight countries in question and the remainder was consigned from other countries.
