Vol. 136 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Milk Supply.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he intends to take any further steps to provide a supply of pasteurised milk in the Cork City area.

Mr. Walsh

I understand that the pasteurisation project promoted by a local co-operative society of producers is still being pursued. The Cork Corporation gave public notice last year of their intention to request the Minister for Health in due course to make an Order under Section 33 of the Milk and Dairies Act prohibiting the sale of milk other than pasteurised or highest grade milk in the Cork County Borough. I understand that some other matters, such as margins, have also been settled.

It is a matter of concern to me that there are as yet no facilities for milk pasteurisation in Cork.
