asked the Minister for Justice whether the Government propose to implement the recommendations contained in the Rent Commission report.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Justice whether in view of the recommendations in the Rent Commission report with regard to furnished lettings, he will, pending the introduction of proposals for a new Rent Restrictions Bill dealing with the entire code, take steps to preserve the status quowith regard to furnished lettings.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to answer Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.

Examination of the recommendations of the Rents and Leaseholds Commission including the recommendation that rent control be extended to furnished lettings, is proceeding but until this examination has been completedand the views of the Government ascertained, I shall not be in a position to indicate the nature of the Government's legislative proposals.
