Vol. 137 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Strength of Armed Forces.

andMr. Collinsasked the Minister for Defence if he will state the increase in personnel of our armed forces as the result of the recent recruitment drive.

The total number of recruits accepted between the 15th January, 1952, and the 28th February, 1953, was 4,958.

The net increase in the personnel of the forces between the 1st January, 1952, and the 31st January, 1953 (the latest date for which complete figures are available), was 2,802.

In view of the Minister's reply yesterday, does the Minister now consider it was wise to withdraw all these officers from the F.C.A. for the training of that limited number?

It would not have been done if it had not been considered wise.
