Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arming of Customs Officials.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the number of unprovoked physical assaults on Irish customs officials in recent years, he will consider the advisability of having all land frontier officers trained in and equipped with small arms.

It is not considered desirable that customs officers should be provided with firearms, but the question of affording the maximum protection possible is under constant consideration.
