Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Turbary Rights.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a number of tenants in the Lansdowne estate, County Kerry, have a right of turbary in a certain holding (Record No. S.3151) but are now unable to gain access to their bogs because the landlord or his agents altered the course of a river nearby and cut away the passage leading to the turbary plots and that those tenants are paying in their annuities a certain sum for the use of the turbary, now denied them; and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that a passage is made available to them by the party responsible for the destruction of the original one.

As there are over 400 holdings in some 80 townlands on this estate, it is not possible to identify the holding in question from the information supplied. If the Deputy supplies me with more detailed particulars, I will have further inquiries made and inform him as to the position.
