Vol. 137 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether, in view of the position at Cromane in regard to applicants for unemployment asistance, he will have the matter investigated and arrange that any applicant resident five miles from the Killorglin exchange office be paid by post.

The position of applicants for unemployment assistance in the Cromane area has been under consideration. I am satisfied that the circumstances would not justify any departure from the general procedure which requires that persons residing less than six miles from the nearest local office, in this case Killorglin branch employment office, must attend at that office for payment.

In view of the fact that this is a fishing and congested district and that the people to whom I refer reside between five and six miles from Killorglin, would the Parliamentary Secretary have the matter again reviewed?

For the information ofthe Deputy, all applicants residing in the Cromane area have proof of unemployment certified at the signing centre of Cromane. A Garda from Killorglin is in attendance weekly. I will further examine the question.
