Vol. 137 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Garda Stations.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will review the location of Garda barracks in Cork City district with a view to their better distributionas at present several are situated within a few hundred yards of each other in the centre of the city, while outlying thickly populated districts such as Gurranebraher, Spangle Hill and Turner's Cross are long distances from the nearest barracks.

I agree that there is need for a new Garda station in the Gurranebraher-Spangle Hill area and it is proposed to make arrangements for the acquisition of a suitable site. As there are, however, many urgent demands for new Garda accommodation the erection of a station will have to be deferred for some little time. I am not satisfied that a new station is necessary in the Turner's Cross area.
