Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position in regard to proposed housing schemes for the following places, Drumcollogher, Adare, Ballingarry, Kildimo, Broadford, Kilmeedy, Ballyhahill and Ballyagran.

A compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of sites forhousing schemes at Broadford and Ballyagran and in respect of 12 out of 17 sites at Adare was confirmed a fortnight ago. Sites at Drumcollogher, Ballingarry and Kilmeedy, included in that order, were considered unsuitable for housing purposes and it is a matter for the county council to seek more suitable sites in these areas.

Plans for a scheme of 5 houses at Kildimo have been submitted by the council and are at present being examined.

No proposals have been submitted to me for a housing scheme at Ballyhahill.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the rural housing needs of County Limerick on 1st April, 1947, and the number of rural single houses completed each year since up to 1st March, 1953, and the estimated need for rural single houses in County Limerick on 1st March, 1953.

The rural housing needs of County Limerick were estimated to be 378 new cottages at 1st April, 1947. There were no rural cottages completed from then to the 31st March, 1950, and the numbers completed each year since are 32, 69 and 82 from the 1st April, 1952, to the 1st March, 1953.

The number of rural cottages required was estimated to be 217 at the 1st March, 1953.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the housing needs of towns and villages in County Limerick on 1st April, 1947, the numbers of town and village houses (group schemes) completed each year since up to 1st March, 1953, and the estimated need for town and village houses on 1st March, 1953.

The housing needs of towns and villages in County Limerick were estimated to be 426 new houses at 1st April, 1947. There were no houses completed in towns and villages from then to the 31st March, 1949, and the numbers completed each year since are 69, 30, 187 and 49 from the 1st April, 1952, to the 1st March 1953.

The number of houses required in towns and villages was estimated to be 217 at the 1st March, 1953.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position in regard to the proposed housing scheme for Rathkeale.

Acquisition of a site at Rathkeale for a scheme of 12 houses which was included in a compulsory purchase order made by the Limerick County Council was confirmed on the 11th of this month. The county council have also submitted a proposal for the acquisition by agreement of a further site to accommodate 16 houses. This proposal is being examined.
