Vol. 138 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Wage Bill.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the total wage bill of C.I.E. in respect of the last financial year and (b) the amount paid in Dublin City and County.

I am informed by C.I.E. that £7,973,000 was paid by the board in salaries and wages in the year ended 31st March, 1953, of which approximately £4,200,000 was paid in Dublin City and County.

In view of the figures now given in respect of C.I.E. wages and salaries, would the Minister not now agree that Dublin is top heavy in regard to the matter of pay?

That is an entirely separate question.

I do not think so. I am trying to point out that as far as C.I.E. is concerned, Dublin is top heavy in the organisation, seeing that half the wage bill paid by C.I.E. is paid in Dublin City.
