Vol. 138 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Ross Fishing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the reason for the prohibition on the fishing of brown trout at the quay in New Ross during the period October to February.

The close season for angling for brown trout applicable to the entire Water-ford Fishery District which includes the waters referred to in the question is from the 1st October in each year to the last day of February in the year following. This close season was fixed following on public inquiries held in the district in May, 1952, at which the general trend of evidence tendered in regard to brown trout angling favoured prohibition of such fishing before the 1st March in any year.
