Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Turf Scheme.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of people who benefited under the assisted purchase of turf scheme for the summer period in (a) Waterford City, (b) Waterford County excluding the Urban District of Dungarvan, and (c) Dungarvan Urban Area, in the years 1950 and 1952.

The average weekly number of beneficiaries under the cheap fuel scheme in Waterford City in the summer of 1950 was 1,115 and in the summer of 1952 884. The figures for the same periods in the Dungarvan Urban Area were 170 for the summer of 1950 and 108 for the summer of 1952. The scheme did not operate in any other towns in the County of Waterford.
